About Vocational Education and Training
What is VET?
Put simply, vocational education and training (VET) is education and training for work. It provides provides skills and knowledge for work through a national training system.
Australia's national vocational education and training system is one of the world's best.
VET provides people with the skills and knowledge they require to:
- enter the workforce for the first time
- train or re-train for a new job
- upgrade their skills
- move into further study in VET or University.
The key elements of the system—which promote quality and national consistency in terms of qualifications and the delivery of training—are:
- Australian Qualifications Framework
- Australian Quality Training Framework
- State and territory training authorities
- Industry skills councils
- Registered training organisations
