RTOs needed to take part in important destinations survey
Service Skills Australia is seeking the help of RTOs with an important project on the destinations of VET graduates.
The project is a survey of students who have successfully completed qualifications in the hospitality and retail industries over the last 3 years. One of the key aims of this Destinations Survey is to develop a greater understanding of the work and study pathways people take after completing a VET qualification.
The data produced by the Destinations Survey will provide greater knowledge of students work and study outcomes and assist RTOs in tailoring their programs in a more targeted fashion. SSA anticipates that the results will assist in demonstrating the relevance and raising the profile of VET qualifications in the service industries and provide RTOs with important information about the role and outcomes of the training they deliver.
How you can help
SSA is asking RTOs to help facilitate the participation of retail and/or hospitality VET course completers in this survey. There are two ways to do this:
- To directly contact all hospitality and retail graduates from over the past three years to inform them of the project and provide them with the email and website addresses to participate. (SSA can provide you with an email template letter whihc has details of the project).
- Or provide CRES with your student lists so that we can contact the hospitality and/or retail graduates to inform them about the survey directly.
- The survey is available online and is accessible at the following link: https://www/surveymonkey.com.au/s/graduatedestinations
All contact will be specifically for research purposes only and will operate in accordance with ethical research practices. The survey is scheduled to close during July 2012, with all student correspondence to be terminated and all contact details to be deleted before the conclusion of the project in September 2012.
Ethical code of conduct
The National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research sets out the national guidelines for ethical conduct in research involving human participants. The purpose of the Statement is to promote ethical research that accords participants with the respect and protection that is due to them, and is of benefit to the wider community. The Statement clarifies the responsibilities of researchers in the ethical design, conduct and dissemination of results of human research: http://www.nhmrc.gov.au/publications/ethics/2007_humans/contents.htm
The University of Melbourne is also committed to the highest standard of integrity in research.
The University’s Code of Conduct for Research prescribes the standards of responsible and ethical conduct expected of all persons engaged in research at the University: http://www.unimelb.edu.au/ExecServ/Statutes/r171r8.html
We would greatly appreciate your help with this important project.
