Outdoor Industries Survey
The outdoor industries (including outdoor recreation) have regularly raised concerns over the way that the breadth and depth of this sector is described. Furthermore, evidence about the nature of the outdoor industries and their return to the national economy is often unavailable, leaving the sector at a disadvantage in terms of providing evidence to attract funding for training and the contribution to the national economy.
In response to these concerns, Service Skills Australia and the Outdoor Council of Australia (OCA) developed and ran a survey in October 2010 as part of conducting a national stocktake of the outdoor industries. This attempted to define the:
- size and turnover of the sector
- breadth and extent of the services offered, and
- capability of its workforce.
In this way, the industry is taking ownership of the issues and responding in a proactive manner. The outcomes and results of the data will be shared with OCA to identify key messages and, subsequently, shared with industry.
We thank you for your support and look forward to sharing the outcomes of this important research with you in the near future.
