The New Deal

In response to growing concern from industry about Australia’s VET system, Service Skills Australia undertook a series of research and scoping activities in 2009 under the project The New Deal to respond to a range of issues in the implementation of training packages.

Project 1: ISC Role in Quality Training and Assessment

The first project investigated how SSA can contribute to best practice delivery and assessment in the industries under our coverage. The project involved research of training and assessment in the service industries under SSA’s scope and the policy framework to determine what role SSA should have in ensuring quality training and assessment across all of its industries.

Project 2 – Workforce development for service industries VET practitioners

SSA recognises the role and importance of quality trainers and assessors who have a clear appreciation of industry’s needs are to the Australian VET sector. This project sought to explore and develop a workforce development strategy for the service industries VET sector to ensure it has the capability to respond to the current and future training and skill needs of its industries. The project involved an examination of the service industries current VET workforce and consideration of existing strategies, relevant outcomes of research and recent work undertaken by various stakeholders.

Project 3 – ISC ‘Tick of approval’ products and support materials

The third project explored effective and industry driven ways of recognising quality training products and support materials that are developed for the service industries and their qualifications.
