Continuous Improvement

The SIS10 Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package is under continuous improvement (CI).
Transition workshops to assist stakeholders in implementing the new package were held across most states and territories during April and May 2011. Most of the issues impacting on the continous improvement of SIS10 came from these transition workshops.
Over the past 4-5 months discussions have taken place with sports, and sports and recreation industry stakeholders as part of the initial continupus improvement of the specific Sport, and generic Sport and Recreation qualifications.
There are two projects running in parallel in which drafting has occurred for Draft 1 in the CI process:
1. SIS Sports CI Project
2. SIS Cross-Sector CI Project
Have Your Say! – Draft 1 is now open and available for broader consultation and feedback on our online feedback register at http://feedback.serviceskills.com.au/. You will need to log in to access this register.
Due to the nature of changes to be made a consideration for SIS10 Version 2 endorsement will be submitted to the National Skills Standards Council (NSSC).
1. SIS Sports, and Sport & Recreation - Qualifications, Units and Skillsets
The current Sport and generic Sport & Recreation qualifications were revised at the beginning of the review process that saw four separate training packages rolled into one, which is now some years ago and hence they do not reflect contemporary practices. In light of this the first priority for the continuous improvement of SIS10 is to update these qualifications. This is referred to as the SIS Sports CI Project.

2. SIS Cross-Sector - Units
All of the 38 cross-sector units across the 8 competency fields are undergoing continuous improvement. This includes fine tuning the repetition of language and updating the units to ensure their applicability across all sectors in SIS10 (Fitness, Community Recreation, Outdoor Recreation and Sport).
i. Coaching and Instruction (7 units)
ii. Client and Customer Service (4 units)
iii. Emergency Response (2 units)
iv. Facility Management (6 units)
v. Working in Industry (7 units)
vi. Occupational Health and Safety (3 units)
vii. Resource Management (7 units)
viii. Risk Management and Security (2 units)
In addition to broad changes to the cross-sector units, five (5) new generic units have been drafted to fill identified gaps that sit across all the sectors in SIS10.

Timeline for Feedback
Draft 1 is open for a 6 week period from Tuesday 3 April and closes on Tuesday 15 May.
After analysis on the comments gathered on Draft 1, together with additional consultations as required, a Draft 2 (Validation draft) will be produced and made available for a further 3-4 week period.
Your feedback is valuable and can be given through the new SSA online Feedback Register at http://feedback.serviceskills.com.au/
Feedback may range from making suggestions to new and revised units, structure of qualification and skill sets, to typographical errors. Using the online register will enable you to receive ongoing notifications about comments made for a particular document.
